[2004.11.04] VR Update: Vicious Rumors guitarist & band leader, Geoff Thorpe is now in physical therapy and showing definite signs of improvement! At this point, Geoff's plans are to return to the band by the end of this year. Geoff and the band were deeply disappointed that they were unable to tour in 2004 and are planning a BIG year in 2005. Furthermore while Geoff is making progress in his therapy his doctors have advised that he focuses on the training program that he is going through and as such, Geoff will have to pass on the opportunity to provide solos for Kaledon's upcoming release. Geoff is deeply disappointed not to be able to participate in this venture and offfer Kaledon's and friends his very best wishes for things to come. Geoff also sends a huge "Thanks!" to all the people who have supported him through this difficult time. Lead guitarist, Geoff Thorpe, recently underwent back surgery and although the procedure was successful, and a full recovery is expected, he will need some time to recuperate making it imposible to attend the Italian dates. In the meantime, VR's upcoming DVD, "Crushing the World - Part 1" is in production and due to be released later this summer. The band will be perfecting the material for their forthcoming studio album, "Immortal". The album is scheduled for release in 2005 with extensive touring in it's support to follow. It's official!! VR is confirmed in the support slot with Savatage on the entire European tour beginning Jan. 15, 2002! A reunion that is long overdue, more than 10 years have past since these two metal legends shared the same bill in 1991; a tour so explosive both the fans and the media still regard it as one of the best power metal lineups of all time! When the horrific events of 9-11 cancelled the Savatage, Symphony X, Vicious Rumors tour of Oct. 2001, VR decided it was time to go back into the studio and begin writing l for their next CD, scheduled for release around May 2002. With over half of the new album completed, VR is planning a special preview of a few of these new songs along with all the VR classics during their set in this upcoming tour. VR just got word yesterday that Savatage has decided it would be best to postpone the European tour due to the recent tragic events that have been inflicted on our world. The following statement is posted on their web site... Dear SavaFriends and Fans, In lieu of the recent tragic events that have gripped the world we have decided to postpone our upcoming European Tour. We feel it is in the best interest for everybody's safety. Our hearts go out to the victims of this senseless disaster and we pray that all in the Legion stay safe. Savatage apologizes for any inconvenience that has been caused due to this, but feel it is the right and necessary move. This was a very difficult decision for Savatage to make and Vicious Rumors supports them in their concern for everyone's safety. Yes it's true, Brian O'Connor is back as lead singer for Vicious Rumors! More powerful than ever, Brian and his 5 octave range allow the classic VR sound to become a reality!! And the band is wasting no time putting this into action. VR has already begun writing for a new studio CD featuring Brian on vocals, due to be released in January 2002. While continuing to move forward creatively, at the core of this new CD will be everything that is "signature VR". In true VR tradition and style, a killer live show has been put together, as they prepare to headline "The Classic Metal Festival" in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Friday, June 15th and then off to Europe for the "Bang Your Head Festival" in Germany with Judas Priest on Friday June 29th.
